Jumping Rope

Under my feet
And over my head
And under and over again
A high place
A low place
I keep pace

My hair is high
When I am low
And low
When I am high
Shoes on pavement
Tap, slap, tap
Slap, tap, slap

I sing a song
to keep the beat
“Cinderella
Dressed up in yella”
Don’t trip up
Keep it up

Another rope
It’s double Dutch
Quicken my hops to steps
Trip and switch
Sing again
Turn again
Stop.

What a happy poem. I havn't thought of those silly songs in a long time. I think I will buy some jump ropes for my grand daughters.
Great "J" word.

Oh, man--I never was any good at jumping rope... I mean I could do the basic kind when I spun it myself, but the GAME? Lousy. I blamed being tall--too much of me to get caught up in the rope.

What a beautiful poem and as I remember my childhood, I always tried to play the string with my cousins, but I'm bad taking the pace and could not more than two hops.

I really get the rhythm of skipping rope from reading this. And the way you describe the motion of your hair is excellent.

Marjorie, I love your double dutch poem! I love the sound of the ropes on pavement. I also have a double dutch memory from 5th grade on my blog if you'd like to read it.
